Mana Pounamu Young Achievers Awards and Scholarships

Whaea Joe Hunter, Dean of Māori Students —

Kia ora te whānau,

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

We are really excited to announce that we will be joining the nation with our Māori moment at 12:00 pm on Monday 14 September. As many people as possible in our school will be speaking, singing and celebrating in te reo Māori.Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori is Monday 14 September to Sunday 20 September. This year’s theme is 'Kia Kaha te Reo Māori’ meaning ‘Let’s make the Māori language strong'. On 14 September 1972, 30 000 signatures were presented to Parliament, asking for te reo Māori to be taught in schools.
In recognition of this significant milestone, on Monday 14 September at 12pm, the country will be celebrating Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori | The Māori Language Moment with the goal of having 1 million people speaking, singing and celebrating te reo Māori at the same time! We would love you to join the moment too.

Mana Pounamu Young Achievers Awards and Scholarships

Otago Girls' has once again been invited to nominate one tuakana (Year 12 to Year 13) and one teina (Year 9 to Year 11) Māori student who our school community recognises as young achievers and future leaders. We encourage every one of our Māori students to enter. Sadly, due to Covid19 safety precautions, there will be no award ceremony night this year, but the annual awards are still going ahead. You need to download the form on https://manapounamu.org.nz/, or collect a hard copy from outside the school office. The student fills in the C.V., their whānau fills in the endorsement letter of support and you return them to the school office or to joe.hunter@otagogirls.school.nz by Thursday 17 September.

Following consultation with students and staff, our chosen nominees' applications will be submitted.
