Congratulations to Amelia for representing OGHS with such poise and enthusiasm! We are so proud of her achievements and grateful for the hard work she put in.⁣

This is the incredible feedback we received from the BizVenture China programme organiser earlier this week:

"Thank you so much for allowing Amelia to participate in the BizVenture China programme last week where she got to visit businesses who export to China, engage in Chinese cultural activities, and compete in a competition for the best market entry strategy for a NZ company into China.

As you know, it was very competitive to be selected for this programme. Only 18 students were selected out of 115 applications for one of the YES Extreme Experiences (from 5,000 YES students nationwide). So just being selected is something to be proud of.

As lead chaperone for the programme, I wanted to share what a delight it was to have Amelia on the trip. She was so engaging and social, and quickly bonded very well with everyone else, especially one of the girls from Newlands College.

Despite clearly having fun, Amelia was also very attentive during the business visits asking very good questions. This was commented on by several of the business people that hosted us.

And when it came to knuckling down to work on the business challenge, Amelia and her team worked really hard and demonstrated great teamwork that was even commented on by the judges. She and the team also impressed the judges with their idea, their plan, and their presentation. This resulted in their team winning the competition and receiving a $250 travel voucher for each person.

I personally loved watching Amelia embrace every opportunity to learn and grow and how she thrived in a stressful business challenge. I also loved how thoughtful she was of others – even as far as secretly buying me custard egg tarts after hearing me remark that I liked them.

You all must be so proud to have Amelia as a student. She was a great ambassador for both Young Enterprise and for Otago Girls’ High School".
