Mikayla Lindsay Wins Top Honours at Hokonui Fashion Design Awards
The annual Hokonui Fashion Design Awards were held on Friday the 25th July in Gore. This year, Otago Girls’ had 3 entries across 2 different sections - 'Gala' and 'From the Earth'.
Mikayla Lindsay in Year 12, won the 'From the Earth' section out of 21 entries. There were 101 entries in total across the 4 school categories. Mikayla also won the 'Bernina School Award of Excellence' which is the top prize available.
Her garment was made using a technique called macrame and used cotton, macrame wool, wooden beads and roving sheep's wool, naturally dyed using cabbage, blackcurrants, strawberries, blueberries and turmeric, and took her 225 hours to complete. We are very proud of Mikayla’s achievement and she has inspired our textiles students to be more creative and enter these competitions in the future. Congratulations again Mikayla for all of your hard work and dedication.
