And Global Club Starts!

Hala Taha, Global Prefect —

This week Global Club ran for the first time this year. Global Club is a club where students and staff can have the opportunity if they want to listen about a different culture every week on a Wednesday Lunchtime in K15.

This week we had the opportunity to listen to Alyssa, Glory, and Jordan talk to us about their Pasifika Culture.

They talked about how the Pacific Islands are all about nature and how in each village they have a chief that looks after the whole village. They talked about how Religion is strong for Pasifika people and that Pacific Island people’s most common favorite food is Chop Suey made out of noodles, curry and coconut cream.

They talked about how the 21st birthday is 'all out' for Tongans, as the 21st is all about walking into adulthood and because of that they hold big celebrations and come together.

They also talked about Pasifika Independence Day which is a day celebrated by the Pasifika people every year where they all come together to celebrate, eat and sing the national anthem.

As well as that they also talked about “VA” as a sacred space that connects people together.

Thank you, Alyssa, Glory, and Jordan for giving us the wonderful opportunity to listen to you talk about your Pasifika culture.
