Otago Girls' High School is continuing to gain success on the local futsal scene!

In Term 1, we showed how strong we are as a futsal school by gaining 2nd place in both the senior and junior weekly competition. Senior A lost narrowly to Queens in their Division 1 final for Year11-13 and the 10A team lost to St Hilda’s in their Division 1 final for Year 9-10, with the 9A team gaining 3rd place in the same division.

On the 13 May, both teams attended the Otago Secondary Schools' tournament held at the Edgar Centre. Again, the girls performed outstandingly playing up to seven tough games within six hours. The Senior A team remained unbeaten all day – beating strong teams from Mt Aspiring and Queens. Unfortunately we stumbled at the final hurdle, losing by one goal to Queens in the final. They will be back with a vengeance to regain their title as the top senior girls’ futsal team in Term 4. The Junior A team came second in the Year 9-10 Division 1 competition, losing only to St Hilda’s in pool play and then again to them in the final. It was impressive to watch this team who were combined from the two teams who played in Term 1. With no previous practice or game time together, they did amazing to come 2nd!

It was also pleasing to see our Year 13 teams play in the Year 11-13 Division 2 competition. Although the OGHS 13+ team didn’t have a lot of success, they represented the school well and enjoyed their day. Many of these players have only just picked up futsal over the last year or two and have mastered the skills required for the sport very quickly! The Senior A+ team made up of girls who have been playing together throughout their entire time at OGHS were unbeaten all day and took out the Division 2 title, drawing with KVC Year 11s in the final but winning on count back for being the top placed team after pool play! We are very proud of this team and it is fantastic to see them finish their futsal playing days on top!

These girls continue to do well and we are so proud of them! We look forward to more success in the future!
