Take A Load Off!

Back in Motion Physiotherapists —

Do you get home from school and find your back and shoulders are aching?

A few things to check to help minimize and prevent back discomfort from a heavy schoolbag are:

1/Carry your bag on both shoulders to help distribute the load.

2/Only take the books and clothing you need for that day.

3/If you have a locker make use of it by putting textbooks in it that you are not using.

4/Carry one big clear file/notebook with sections for all subjects instead of different ones for various subjects.

5/Pack heaviest objects in first so they are carried lower and closest to the body.

6/Use all the compartments so that the load is evenly distributed throughout the backpack and items do not shift during movement

The weight of your backpack should be no more than 10% of your body weight for example 50kg student =5 kg backpack.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to call Back In Motion and have a chat to one of our Physiotherapists
