Acting Principal's Report

Ms R. Taigel, Acting Principal —

Welcome to the last week of Term 1! What a busy and action-packed term it has been.

Just this week, 20 girls from OGHS were lucky enough to visit the Otago Museum to hear Colonel Mike Hopkins from NASA give an inspirational talk about his amazing experience on the international space station.

We had our school cross country last Friday, and all students participated with great enthusiasm and positivity, some even on crutches! The house spirit was alive and well on the day with many dressing in house colours for the run, with ___ ultimately taking out the overall win for house points.

A number of students should also be commended for their individual outstanding achievements from the past week. Jemma Wilson in Year 10 competed in the New Zealand Division 2 Swimming Championships in Rotorua and came away with a number of medals. She’s one to watch! Petra McNutt-Milne, also in Year 10, was selected for the New Zealand under 16 AFL team, an impressive achievement.

The combined OGHS/OBHS kapa haka, Wairua Puhou, are busy with their preparation for the Kapa Haka Nationals in Palmerston North in the first week of July. Their dedication to practice and fundraising is impressive, and they epitomise our core values in the way they work as a team.

If you haven’t already, it will be important to get in quickly and purchase your tickets for the combined OB’s/ OG’s production of the NZ premier of Strictly Ballroom held on the 9th to 13th of May. The seats are selling fast!

Please have a look at our new-look school website: www.otagogirls.school.nz and check out the link to information about our community consultation. This will be a great opportunity for you to lend your voice to the process of finding our ‘Why’ at OGHS.

As you’re well aware, the cold weather has arrived, so please wrap up warm and take care over the school holidays. Students are to be in full winter uniform upon their return to school in Term 2.
