Congratulations to our students who took part in Summer sports week 27 March – 1 April.
Cricket
Two junior students received awards at the Kaikorai Club Awards. Emily Aubin was awarded “Best Batter” for her team the Diamonds. Then was awarded the overall trophy for “Top Female Cricketer” for the 2022 club season also receiving a 2023 T20 World Cup Suzie Bates shirt. Emily follows Grace Barnes and Isy Parry on the trophy. Sophie Beaumont received the “Coaches Choice” medal for the Diamonds.
The OGHS Cricket team also took part in the prestige Willow’s Cricket tournament.
Beth O’Connor travelled to Auckland for the ANZ Cricket awards to be awarded the prestigious Gillette Venus Young Player of the Year award.
Athletics
Athletes travelled to Invercargill for the SISS Athletics meet and received outstanding placings in this competition (see article int his newsletter).
Rowing
Our rowers travelled to Lake Karapiro in Cambridge for the Aon Maadi Cup Regatta and gained outstanding results.
Harriet Thomspon won the silver medal in the U18 1X.
Under 15 quad- 6th place B final. Frances Donald, Ariana Oswald, Milly Hoeta, Sophie Moors &cox Lily Falcous.
Under 16 single - 6th place B final. Kate Merriman
Under 18 double - 6th place A final. Harriet Thompson & Islay Merriman.
Under 17 quad - 2nd place B final. Lily Moors, Sophie Orchiston, Maggie Hepburn, Danielle Milne & cox Lily Falcous.
Congratulations to Harriet Thompson who has been invited to attend the 2023 U19 trails at Lake Karapiro later this month.
Volleyball
The Senior Sirens Volleyball Team travelled to Palmerston North for the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Volleyball Nationals the team placed 16th out of 88 girls teams!
Waterpolo
The OGHS Senior A Water Polo team travelled to Christchurch for the SISS Water PoloTournament. The team placed 6th!
Softball
OGHS had 5 students who contributed to a combine softball team which was led by Queen's High School, Benka Page-Smith, Jahnekah Namana, Soliana Freeman, Emma Pain and Jasmine Hill. They travelled to the South Island Secondary Schools Softball tournament in Christchurch. They played against Southland Girls', Dunstan High, Avonside Girls', Ashburton High and Riccarton High. The tournament was played from Tuesday 28th to Friday 31st. The biggest challenge they had during the week was some very wet and windy weather. It disrupted the games on the first two days but they managed to get all games in over the tournament.
