Freedom Week

Hetty Finney Waters, Amnesty Group —

The Otago Girls' Amnesty group's annual celebration of Freedom week ran once again this year from the 8 - 12 August. Cultural day kick-started the week with celebrations and performances from students who were encouraged to come to school in clothes relevant to their culture or heritage. The rest of the week saw a myriad of fun activities, including David Attenborough documentary screenings, flax weaving and Māori games, chalking the school courts and Pride day where we closed the week with a Heartstopper screening and LGBTQ+ book promotion in the library. Freedom week was a massive success once again and it was great to see so many people getting involved in this opportunity to learn and celebrate diversity in our school.
