Sports Day

Ella Gomez, Sport Prefect —

The battle between our four OGHS houses began last Friday at our annual Sports Day. Sports day is a highlight of the year for many students and staff even though we’re only three weeks in. It is a time where the whole school comes together and puts on a fantastic day. Williams' Warriors, Flora Allan's Fairytale, Benjamin's Brothers and Cruickshank Celebs all dressed up in vibrant colours and suitable costumes for the occasion. It was so lovely to be out and about on such a beautiful summer day, getting involved and seeing everyone enjoy themselves. Seeing the stand full of students cheering each other on, getting out there and participating was incredibly heartwarming. Whether it was running, jumping, hopping, skipping or throwing, students threw themselves into the spirit of the day. They created such a positive and uplifting atmosphere throughout the school.

We had several records broken this year. Congratulations to Catherine Lund in Year 11, who broke the 800m and 1500m record. In the field, Kiera McNeil broke the Year 12 Long jump record by 15 cms, and Jess Tyrell also broke the Year 13 Shot Put record by 56cms. A big congratulations to Williams House for winning sports day with Allan coming in second, Benjamin in third and Cruickshank in fourth. Much planning took place behind the scenes to run a smooth and fun day for everyone. I want to thank all of those who were a part of this - your work doesn’t go unnoticed, and we thank each of you for helping create unforgettable memories for all. We are all excited about the upcoming swimming sports, which is our next house competition. As a Year 13, we were grateful to have such a fantastic last sports day.
