Ruby Acklin's Cheer Team Wins Gold on the Gold Coast

Cheree Henderson —

We are thrilled to share the success of Year 9 student, Ruby Acklin, who recently achieved a phenomenal result with her competitive cheerleading team, Luna, from Dunedin's Eclipse Cheerleading.

The team returned this week from a major international competition on the Gold Coast, Australia—marking the gym's first-ever international event. Competing against teams from across Australasia, Ruby and her teammates demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication.

Team Luna's performance resulted in several major achievements:

  • International Gold Medal: Team Luna secured the Gold in their competitive division (Level 2).

  • Perfect Routines: The team achieved a rarity at this level, hitting two zero deduction routines across the two-day competition. A zero deduction score signifies a technically perfect performance, free of any penalties.

  • Global Recognition: Their high placement earned them a Partial Bid to the Global Games in Hawaii in May 2026.

  • Grand Champion Finish: Luna ranked an impressive 4th overall in the Grand Champions standings, competing against a vast field of 40 teams.

These fantastic results reflect the incredible hard work, discipline, and teamwork demonstrated by Ruby and the entire Luna squad.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Ruby on her success!
