Annual School Sports Day
Dear Parents, Caregivers and whānau
On Friday 16 February, Otago Girls’ High School will be holding its annual school Sports Day at the Caledonian ground (Logan Park). This is a very important event in the school year and one which students and staff look forward to with enthusiasm. Students are expected at the ground by 8.30 am for roll call. We will be running the 1500 m for runners at 8.40 am, so those athletes will need to come earlier to warm up and be ready for this early start time.
Students need to bring their own lunch with them which should include a good supply of water. Sunscreen and a hat are essential and warm clothes should the weather appear cool. We strongly encourage everyone to wear house colours and dress up for the house competition according to their house theme, plus clothing appropriate for competing in events and races. Students will not be permitted to apply and/or remove face paint while at the Caledonian.
We are seeking help from parents or caregivers to assist in supervising events for part of the day. Each event (e.g. long jump) will also have staff members assigned, so no prior experience is necessary! If you are able to help, please contact the school (admin@otagogirls.school.nz).
If the sports day needs to be postponed due to inclement weather, students, caregivers and volunteers will be advised by text notification. Email and announcements will also be placed on our Facebook page. In the event of postponement, students should come to school prepared for lessons.
Usually the sports finish at about 3.10 pm. Students can be picked up at the conclusion of the sports. Traffic can be very busy at this time so please arrange a suitable pick up spot if necessary. Students will not be permitted to leave the grounds during the day. We appreciate that parents do not ask for students to be released early.
School buses will not operate from the Caledonian ground.
Parents and caregivers are very welcome to join us for the day.
