Equestrian Update
The OGHS Equestrian team has experienced great success over the summer. Our riders have competed at various events at both regional and national level and we are proud of their outstanding results.
Millie Scoles has been selected to attend the Global Amateur Tour to be held in Paris, France. Millie was one of 10 New Zealand riders to be selected for this prestigious event and she will get the opportunity to ride at the 2024 Olympic venue. Millie competed at the South Island Championships in January. She came 5th in the 1.05cm to 1.15cm championship with 55 riders in the class on her horse Valadons choice (aka Aston). She also competed at the Pony Club South Island Championships and her team came 6th out of 23 teams.
Eila Currie Quinn won the overall prize for the Aniwell Category C Pony High Points Show Hunter Series. Her pony Rednalhgih Lexi (aka Lexi) displayed correct jumping technique whilst maintaining her rhythm at the various courses throughout Otago and Southland. Eila and Lexi won the South Island Pony Equitation Series in January and placed 2nd in the National Equitation event.
Jessie McGrouther has been selected for the Otago Southland Eventing Team to travel and compete with her horse Bracken Ridge NV (aka Bracken) in the New Zealand Pony Club Eventing Champs being held in Taupo mid April. She gained a 2nd place at the Gore One Day Event in the 95cm competition. In the South Island Show Jumping Championships she got 4th in the 95cm class jumping double clear. She also competed in the 2 day eventing championship up in Christchurch (Mcleans Island) where she went double clear for a 5th. Down south she competed in Donovon (Invercargill) where she finished on her dressage score for a 2nd place.
Mia Quinn competed in the 90cm-1.00m Horse Emerging Talent Challenge at the National Event held in Christchurch in early February. This show jumping competition consisted of four rounds of show jumping over three days and included over 50 riders from throughout New Zealand. This was an extremely competitive event with half of the field not progressing through to the next round. Mia and her horse Jimmy Chux MPL (aka Jimmy) only had one rail in the final round which resulted in a creditable 11th place. Mia gained a second place in the South Island Speed Horse 90cm Non Championship event held in Mosgiel.
