Acting Principal's Report

Mrs B Davidson, Acting Principal —

This week I was privileged to attend Show Quest! What a wonderful display of energy, dance, backdrop, costumes and lighting. More impressive however was the powerful message that our performance conveyed around equity for all people. It was lovely to see such a large group of students involved and we look forward to the video to follow, which we will show at assembly. Full credit goes to the Year 13 Dance class who choreographed the whole performance, Renata Herrera-Rojas who composed the music and Mrs Parkinson who is their amazing teacher. Everyone worked very hard for a long time to get this amazing production to the stage.

The Winter term is the time for really settling into learning and getting organised at home for an optimal study space. It is important that all students have a desk or table to work on, adequate lighting and a good posture-enhancing chair. Nutritious food, plenty of sleep, regular exercise and lots of good encouragement for study routines are also important. Getting outside when the sun is shining is especially vital for Vitamin D. Students perform best when parents show an interest in what they are learning and spend time planning ahead with them. Discussing long-term plans and career goals can also be very beneficial.

Please ensure your child has a blazer and is wearing it to and from school. It takes the whole school to create pride and belonging and a true sense of connection to the school and to learning here. Just one student not wearing the uniform well or adhering to the school values can destroy the good work and example of many. When wearing the school uniform there are expectations that students will exhibit exemplary behaviour and be respectful and kind. School can support students who do not currently have a blazer or need help accessing one. See Ms Taylor or Mrs Grant to arrange this. All students must wear their blazer in assembly next week or they will be dressed in the school loan blazers.

It was great to see so many parents at the interviews last night and we have online interviews next Wednesday evening to follow. If you have any concerns at all about learning and/or other matters, don’t hesitate to email your Dean or come in for a meeting. We would rather engage early with whānau when there are problems and can always think of a way to help. We have a supportive and creative team who are very experienced in finding effective solutions and strategies. We welcome open dialogue and home-school partnerships.
