Preserving and celebrating the stories of our former students is an important part of life at Otago Girls' High School. We were proud to assist Rennae Taylor (University of Auckland) by digging into our school archives for a newly published piece on Dr Susannah Sinclair (née McKnight) for The Early Medical Women of New Zealand series.

Susannah’s story is a remarkable one. A student from 1894 and Dux in 1897, she returned to teach science and mathematics at the school for 13 years before entering medical school in 1917. Graduating at 43, she went on to serve the medical community and champion local heritage as a founding leader of the Otago Pioneer Women’s Memorial Association.
