Year 9 Camp

Ms J Nielson, Year 9 Dean —

Squeals of excited chatter, delight and laughter could be heard throughout Tirohanga Camp, as our Year 9 students enjoyed their overnight camps this week.

Everyone mastered the confidence course, climbing wall and team challenges. They built bivvies and entertained us with night time talent shows. Malcam Trust provided excellent support and they also ran a range of activities that developed students’ cooperative skills. Our school's long standing tradition of writing time-capsules continued as the students wrote letters to their future selves.

The second day of camp was spent at the Tairei Reserve, walking from Outram Glen to Lee Stream. It was apparent that so many new friendships had been forged, as everyone chatted for the entire 10 kilometre walk, despite the challenging hills.

The peer leaders who joined us on camp offered great support and encouragement to the Year 9s. My thanks go to our student leaders and all the staff who accompanied us. We also acknowledge the support of our parent community who appreciate the importance of camps.

We are very proud of how well the Year 9s have settled into school life; they are a dynamic part of our school community. If you have any queries or concerns about any aspect of your child’s education, please do not hesitate to be in touch.
