The current Covid 19 Coronavirus situation

Ms L. Miller, Principal —

The Covid 19 Coronavirus situation continues to evolve and the government has responded by banning gatherings of over 500 people and insisting on new arrivals into the country going into self-isolation for 14 days. Numerous local and national sporting events and competitions have also been cancelled.

At this stage there are no plans for schools to close. The most likely reason this would happen would be if there was a confirmed case of the virus in the school, in which case the school would close for 1 - 2 days to enable contacts to be tracked and traced. We are, however, planning how we would function should schools across New Zealand be required to close at some point in the future. Please note that any announcement of the closure of the school will be communicated to you directly via email and the School App and will be posted on our website.
At this point we will:- continue to promote safe hygiene practices- require anyone returning from overseas to self-isolate for 14 days- not hold whole school assemblies- continue to run planned camps, with additional provisions in place to cope with any suspected cases of the virus.

We have been informed by School Sport New Zealand that all Secondary School sporting events have been postponed. This means that Summer Tournament Week events will not be proceeding as planned. The local Futsal competition has also been suspended.
You can find the most up to date information about the virus here and a great youtube clip for children here.
Safe hygiene practices are as follows:

  • wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and dry thoroughly
  • avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • avoid sharing anything that has come in contact with saliva, whether in your living or social environments
  • stay home when you are sick and seek medical attention
  • cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the rubbish
  • get adequate sleep and eat well-balanced meals to ensure a healthy immune system.
