Year 9 Camp
The other week all the Year 9 classes went on camp. It was so fun thanks to all the teachers and peer supports. Here were some of the things that we did.
We started the day with a nice bush walk. Then we went to the bowling club and played lawn bowls, then headed over to the campsite to set up the waterslide. This waterslide was so much fun, it was a black tarp down the hill and we were all sliding down it.
Personally, my favourite activity at camp was playing gaga ball with everyone, where you stand in an octagonal pit with a ball and try to hit it at people’s legs. It was really fun when most of the class joined in and we were all playing it.
The next day we played capture the flag and tug of war which was organised by our peer supports, and we also did the confidence course and bivouac building.
Overall it was a really fun camp and great bonding experience to know your class a bit better. - Sadie Scott
Sweat drips down my face, my legs burning as we climb the hill in silence with only our thoughts about when this terrible bush walk will finally end to keep us entertained. It was only the first day of camp and I was already exhausted. As we reached the clearing we were instructed to start building our bivvies which we were told that our Peer Support students would be pouring water over top of with us in them. Everyone scrambled about to grab sticks and bushes of all different shapes and sizes, while I helped my team build ours. Then the time came, as everyone huddled into our small and very sticky bivvies our Peer Support dumped the contents of their water bottles on top of our beautiful creations. Shrieks of screaming girls echoed around us as some groups got completely drenched.
As the day turned into night, we performed in the camp talent show (which was filled with many, many laughs) and sat down to write our letters to our future selves, which we will open at the end of Year 13. This was one of my personal highlights as I can’t wait to re-read that letter back to see if I still love the same things as I do now.
And when the bus eventually comes to take us back to school, we leave behind the memories of late-night laughing in the cabins, the thrill of playing Gaga Ball and a whole lot of memories that will last us all a lifetime. - Lucy Bayne
