Once Upon a One More Time

Hannah Scoullar, Year 13 —

In June, the talented students from both Otago Girls and Otago Boys brought the hit musical Once Upon A One More Time to the stage. After months of rehearsals, the cast and crew put on an amazing production that ran from Tuesday the 16th to Saturday the 20th of June.

Featuring iconic hits from Britney Spears including Toxic, Circus, Oops!....I Did It Again, Once Upon A One More Time follows the classic fairytale princesses we know and love as they get a chance to rewrite and right their happily ever after.

The musical showcased themes of love, courage, friendship and empowerment. The princesses learnt that they have the power to shape their own future, delivering a message about finding your own voice.

The show was filled with fun dance numbers, powerful vocals and plenty of laughs that created an enticing atmosphere for the audience.

The bright costumes and magical choreography transported the audience from the auditorium to the fairytale world.

A special congratulations goes to Sienna Thomas who led the cast as Cinderella, and Brooke Beaman whose portrayal of Snow White was filled with heart. Their performances along with all of the talented cast helped bring the fairytale world to life.

It wouldn’t have been possible without the immense commitment from the students and staff from both schools. A special thank you goes to Ms V, the amazing director and choreographer, Ms Hayward the superstar production manager, and Anna Langford, the talented vocal director. Everyone involved played an important role in bringing the show to life.

Behind every performance were months of rehearsals, learning choreography, perfecting harmonies, memorising lines and bringing each character to life. Seeing the production go from the first rehearsal to the first show was a rewarding experience for everyone involved.

The production was a fun experience and an opportunity to make friends, put ourselves out there and create memories that will last beyond the final bow. It was incredibly rewarding to see all the hard work and effort reflected in the audience's laughter and applause. The standing ovation that was received on closing night was a fitting celebration of all the cast and crew have achieved.
