The N Factor
Notice Your Number (%)Nudge to Ninety
We are focusing on lifting our attendance rates to reach the MoE targets. The Ministry aims to increase regular attendance from 60% in 2021 to 75% by 2026 and 80% by 2030.
Students have been encouraged to NOTICE their NUMBER (attendance rate %) on EDGE and work towards increasing this. We are working to help students identify and remove any barriers to their attendance and set specific goals to improve their NUMBER (%). There are many students who are currently in the 85-89% area and they just need a small improvement to be "Nudged to Ninety." We appreciate that there are some complex reasons or barriers as to why a student may have irregular attendance patterns. We want to work with families to try to address as many of these as we can. Open and regular communication with the student's year level Dean is essential, so that we can formulate a personalised support and improvement plan.

We also need parents/caregivers to communicate with the school regarding the reason for their child's absence so we can correctly code this as a Justified or Unjustified absence.
After the school has sent a notification message to parents/caregivers regarding a student's absence, any unexplained absences are converted to T for truant if the school has not received communication from home stating a reason for their child's absence by the end of that week. The Attendance Officer will contact parents/caregivers directly, if no explanation is provided for student absence.
REPORTING ABSENCES
Please remember to email, phone, or use the School App to report any absences. The Attendance Officer is Mrs Jill Grant jg@otagogirls.school.nz
1. Call 03 474 0496 and press line 1. You can leave a message for Mrs Grant. Please use this phone line rather than calling line zero and being redirected back to the main office. Leaving a message on the attendance phone line helps to centralise absence messages and streamline communication.
2. Using the School App to report any absences. https://schoolappsnz.co.nz/
3. Emailing the Attendance Officer directly - Mrs Jill Grant jg@otagogirls.school.nz
