Warm Greetings to you all

This week, we had a fabulous group of parents and aiga attend the Pacific fono. Next week we have the Welcome Whānau Hui for all of our Māori whānau and anyone else who would like to attend. Coming to school events, asking your child questions about school, persisting in asking your child about school despite their one-word answers, encouraging reading and maths at home and supporting co-curricular activities all give your child a message that education counts. It shows that you value their education successes and are there to support them through these important five years.

Congratulations to all of our school parents and community in their efforts on paying school donations, increasing school attendance and improving school uniform last year and into this year. The school has an increasing roll, increasing international student numbers, a thriving school culture, and high academic success. Student leadership plays no small part in this and today all Year 13 students attended a Girls’ Leadership Development Day, facilitated by the organisation ‘Thrive for Life’.

The PTSA has their annual very pleasant AGM coming up and you can see the ‘Bubbles and Cake’ invite here. We encourage as many of you as possible to come and join our wonderful PTSA at 6.30pm on Wednesday 19th March. Many hands make very light work and we have a number of new office-bearers who joined last year so they will be very pleased to see you come along. Please also support the Hot Cross Bun fundraiser and later the Bingo night coming up on 28th May.

We are delighted to have positive movement on our hall repairs and upcoming building projects. Thanks to our students and teachers who are always flexible and adaptable when faced with change. It really is an exciting time to be at Otago Girls’ High School.

"We believe Leadership needs to be taught not caught. The ChangeMaker Leadership Development day is about supporting and empowering senior high school students to become leaders who are confident and competent. By giving them the skills to lead we are supporting their first experience in leadership and preparing them to take the skills they have learned and use them throughout their lifetime in our organisations and communities"
