Outward Bound

Sophia Niblock and Caitlin Harrex. —

Hi, we are Sophia and Caitlin and we have both been on the Mind Body Soul 21 day Outward Bound Course this year. Over the course of the 21 days we took part in a wide variety of physical activities including; sailing, tramping, coasteering, white water kayaking, half marathon, solo in the bush and volunteering. As well as the physical activities, we spent a lot of time journaling, self-reflecting, and being with watch mates. At the end we came out with new friendships, skills, and a new sense of self awareness. Our favourite activities were sailing and white water kayaking. These schemes pushed us and were activities we usually don’t get to do. A main point that impacted us was that ‘there is always more in you’ and it is important to push ourselves outside of our comfort zones in order to grow. We would highly recommend anyone and everyone to do one of these courses, it is truly life changing. If you are in the Year 11 to 13, keep an eye out for scholarships in the school notices but if you are not able to get one through school there are many other organisations and pathways to get sponsorships. We would both like to personally thank our sponsors Otago Community Trust for allowing us this opportunity.
