World Challenge Expedition 2018

Miss M. Young, World Challenge Coordinator —

Congratulations to thirteen students from Year’s 10 and 11 for their selection onto the World Challenge Expedition to Thailand/Laos in December 2018.

World Challenge was introduced to the school in 2014 and this is the third expedition.

World Challenge is a student-led educational expedition designed to develop important life skills helping students to: develop teamwork and leadership skills, gain confidence and self-esteem, become more globally aware, and enhance employment prospects.

The expeditions are arranged around five distinct phases: Planning and Preparation from fundraising to fitness training, research and itinerary planning; Acclimatisation is a chance to become familiar with the practical tasks and student-led roles, culture, and an introductory trek; Trekking in remote and incredible locations around the world including jungles, deserts and mountains; Project is the most rewarding phase working alongside a small rural local community on a conservation project where students live and interact with the local people and become immersed in their daily lives; Rest and Relaxation is an opportunity to reflect on the challenges and personal achievements they have encountered, and time to explore more of the culture.

The first of their challenges is to fundraise $7450 each. The girls will be stretched beyond their comfort zones as they overcome diversity and understand their strength and weaknesses. They will gain an appreciation for other cultures and a broader global perspective. It is a journey of self-discovery, personal growth, friendship and laughter.
