Night Market Success

Harriet Miller, Year 13 —

On 27 October, Otago Girls’ High School held a Night Market that will hopefully be the first of many. This event was initiated as a fundraiser to contribute to the resurfacing of our school courts and addition of outdoor performance spaces. The night was full of entertainment from our very own Wairua Pūhou, Nautilus Chorale, Head Prefect - Paige Milburn, The Burberry Scarves and more. A wide variety of food was for sale ranging from artisan bread to traditional Afghani rice. Students and contributors from the wider community came together to sell their goods such as freeze dried lollies, plants, second-hand books and clothing. The bake sale was full of delicious delicacies that were kindly donated by students and their families which we are extremely grateful for.

This event was initially proposed by a Year 13 student, Harriet Miller who was quickly accompanied by Cara Spurway, Mrs Sue Watt, Miss Charlotte Hayward and Principal - Mrs Bridget Davidson. Cara and Harriet created a night market committee of eager Year 9 and 10 students. This group pulled together creative games that added to the festivities of the fundraiser. On behalf of the school, we would like to thank parents, teachers, students and all wider community members for the donations and assistance they provided. All of this was needed for the event to be a success and we hope this will continue in years to come, as every year we intend for this event to become bigger and better.
