Weekly Maths Challenge!

Mrs J Cole, HOD Mathematics —

Welcome to the very first edition of the challenge! We believe that numeracy isn’t just about solving equations in a textbook; it’s about sharpening your logic, spotting patterns in the world around you, and most importantly - having a bit of fun with a challenge.

Every week, we’ll share five puzzles designed to test your numeracy skills and logic. Whether you’re a Year 10 student or a parent who hasn't looked at a fraction in a decade, these are for you. Grab a cuppa, sit down with the family, and see who can claim the title of "Maths Whiz of the Week" in your household.

  1. If it takes 3 minutes to boil one egg, how long does it take to boil 6 eggs in the same pot?

  2. A pair of shoes originally cost $80. They are on sale for 25% off. What is the new price?

  3. A book has 100 pages. How many times does the digit "7" appear in the page numbers?

  4. What is the next number in this sequence? 2, 6, 12, 20, 30, …

  5. You have a circular pizza. What is the maximum number of pieces you can cut it into using only three straight cuts? (Note: The pieces don't have to be equal sizes!)
