Otago Secondary Schools’ Swimming Championships

Charlotte Hewson, Student swimming Coordinator —

On Sunday 30 May the Otago Secondary Schools’ Swimming Championships were held at Moana Pool. We had 11 athletes competing, with girls coming away with a number of personal bests and placings in both individual events and relays. Otago Girls’ came away with 24 placings, including first place from the ‘A’ relay team in the Women's 200 Freestyle relay and Women’s 200 Medley relay. Our ‘B’ team were placed third in both the 200 Freestyle and 200 Medley relays.

Congratulations to all the girls who competed. A big thank you to Mrs Gina Wills, our team manager, and Miss Young who helped organise the team and was there to support everyone throughout the day.

Term Two is a busy time on the Swimming calendar. We have two events coming up:

  1. South Island Secondary Schools’ Swimming Championships in Timaru on 19 to 20 June. We are sending a team of eight swimmers to compete.

  2. National Secondary Schools’ Swimming Championships in Auckland at the end of the July holidays. Our top five competitors will be travelling to participate in this event.
