SISS Top Rope Climbing Competition
On August 28th and 29th, the OGHS Climbing Club competed at the South Island Secondary Schools' Climbing Competition in Christchurch. The two-day event has teams of four each climbing 30 different ropes on day one, followed by a second round in pairs on the next day. The competition required a lot of endurance, so well done to all the girls who persevered through the exhaustion.
The squad consisted of a junior team with Arlia Davies, Sophia Oats, Julia Hodgson, and Sophie Whalan, and a senior team. We are very proud of the seniors for placing 3rd in the female category and 14th overall. Congratulations to Mae Baker, Ariana Oswald, Ace Smith, and Alice Haines for this well-earned success, as well as Eva Somerville, who showed commitment despite her injury.
We would like to give our thanks to the Adventure Centre and Dave for hosting this unique event, as well as our climbing teachers, Mr Cassidy and, of course, Mr Bleckinger, who made this trip possible for us!
We look forward to seeing those who will join us in next year's competition.
