Shark Tank Finale

Ms F Speight, Social Studies —

A huge range of innovative products with interesting solutions to real life problems were pitched to the Year 10s and judges at Monday's Shark Tank finale. Students in Social Studies this term have been working in groups to create a product or a service that would then be pitched to their peers and a panel of esteemed judges. Over the last week in class pitches have occurred with a huge range of product and business ideas shown. These included such ideas as the Rukus Rouse (an alarm clock that shakes the sleeper awake) to a tamagotchi-style fashion device that can soften the grip of social awkwardness prevalent for many Year 10s since the forced social isolation and lockdowns of Covid19 and can be worn to show how a person is feeling. The winner of Shark Tank this year was Sockets from 10Mn who created a unique idea of a sock with a pocket. Led by Nadia Koni, Tara Forbes, Kate Merriman, Eva Robertson and Hayley Reynolds, Sockets was a simple yet innovative product with strengths in particular around their awesome marketing video and in the production of a prototype. All in all it was a fun period with some fabulous pitches that for some may go on to be developed further as students continue their studies in Enterprise in Year 11.
