Principal's Report

Mrs B Davidson, Principal —

Kia ora koutou

We were delighted with the success of our Open Night and in particular the way in which the students entertained, escorted and interacted with their guests. It is fabulous to see how proud the students are of the school and how excited they are to share their school experiences with others.

Enrolments close at 4pm on Thursday 18th August and sisters of current students and in-zone students must also get their applications in by then as well. There is a ballot at 4pm that day for out-of-zone students. Enrolments are open now - both online and by return of the enrolment form to the school office. We are excited to meet our Year 9 students for 2023 at their enrolment interviews later in the term.

Today we celebrate the signing of the PPTA Promise to New Teachers. This shows our Board’s commitment to supporting new teachers. This includes trying to make positions permanent where possible, providing mentoring support to new teachers and giving them ample resources to develop their practice and reach full certification. I still remember my first teaching year at James Hargest High School in Invercargill in 1991 and the importance of the wonderful support and mentoring I was fortunate to receive there.

The School Production is amazing (judging by the rehearsals)! Please come along to enjoy the hard work of all involved. It is energetic, fast-paced and fun. Please see details for how to book in this publication.

We invite you all to the School Council International Pot Luck Party on Monday evening at 5-7.30pm. This will be a great time to come together and enjoy food and entertainment from the many different cultures at our school. This is a part of Cultural Day and there are live cultural performances at lunchtime.

Please keep discussing Summer Sport and other activities with your child as we expect all students to be involved in one or more activities all through the year. The benefits of this to the students are enormous and the most successful students are the busiest. Get a team together, make some plans and have some fun. Sports Day will be Monday 12th September (postponed from Term One) and it promises to be the best yet. House Captains will be ramping up participation so start the training now!
