CAREERS DEPARTMENT
Programme Incubator
The last session for Programme Incubator was on Tuesday afternoon.
RADIATION THERAPY
Our students were presented with information from Radiation Therapists about careers in this specialty. This was a very interesting session and some of the girls were keen to explore this career opportunity further and asked excellent questions about the type of work done in the Radiation department.
VISITING THE MORGUE
We all felt a bit anxious about our next visit which was to the Morgue. Diane (Mortuary Technician) showed us around the mortuary and explained what she did in her job as well as what all the tools were used for. We all agreed that this visit showed us the cultural responsibilities attached to such a position and really valued the way Diane was so respectful of the people who had passed away who were then placed in her care.
REGISTRAR CHAT
Jamie Leong, a Registrar at the hospital talked about the UMAT examinations and first year completing Health Sciences. She then went on to explain the training and learning that takes for a hospital registrar. This was really helpful information and again, the girls asked some great questions which Jamie was able to answer for them.
EVALUATION
All 14 students who attended the programme incubator for the four sessions will receive a certificate of participation which they can put on their CV. The students have given some very positive feedback about this programme and feel that they have a better insight into health related careers.
