Albert Town 2020

Hannah Forbes, Year 11 —

In December I went with 19 Year 10 students and three teachers to Albert Town. We camped at the Lake Outlet campground along the shores of the Clutha river. During the week we did a range of activities including hiking up Mt Iron, Diamond Lake to the Wanaka lookout, and a stroll along the track from Bremner Bay back to camp. On Tuesday we had amazing sunshine and biked 36km’s along the Outlet and Hawea River tracks. After our bike ride we were challenged to run into the river to cool off!

Wednesday morning was our climbing day at Basecamp Wanaka, switching between clip’n climb and the climbing wall. Unfortunately the wind picked up in the afternoon, continued through the night and into Thursday morning, therefore we were unable to go kayaking and on the stand-up paddle boards. Sacrifices were made, and we got to spend time at Puzzling World being challenged in the maze and illusion room.

We had an interesting time on Wednesday evening with heavy rain and strong winds. One tent had pools of water inside and another tent threatened to blow away. Thankfully all tents stayed attached to the ground and everything dried out by Thursday morning.

We had really delicious food on camp and heaps of home baking. Some of our favourite meals were gourmet burgers, bbq, fresh fruit platter with pancakes. Story time was so much fun - thank you Kate Pyper and Mia Quinn for bringing Disney Channel, Princesses and Cinderella come alive at Albert Town camp.

Thank you to Miss Young, Mr McGowan and Ms Satake-Cadman our camp staff who made everything possible for us. I would very much recommend this camp for future Year 10 students.
