From OGHS to the World Stage!

Cheree Henderson —

We are incredibly proud to share some "wheelie" exciting news about one of our former students. Destiny Stewart (Class of 2021) has officially qualified for the BMX World Championships, being held in Australia this July.

Destiny’s journey is a fantastic reminder that it’s never too late to try something new. While she was a student here at Otago Girls', Destiny made the bold move to trade in her gymnastics leotard for a BMX bike at the age of 16, inspired by watching her younger brother ride.

That background in gymnastics clearly provided a golden foundation for her balance and bravery on the track. After taking a few years off to focus on her studies, Destiny returned to the sport two years ago with a vengeance. Her dedication and grit were on full display at the National Championships in Southland, where she secured her spot to represent New Zealand on the world stage.

We look forward to cheering Destiny on from Dunedin this winter. Once an Otago Girl, always an Otago Girl!
