Library Day

Mrs J Smallfield —

We had a lovely Spring day to celebrate the school's 83rd Library Day and have a Spring Fling.

Due to the Level 2 Covid restrictions the assembly for the presentation of Library books was held in the Library and successfully zoomed out to students and staff. Thank you to the Whanau Classes, school groups and departments that presented books to the library. A big thank you in particular to the PTSA and the Board of Trustees who each donated $1500 for library resources. Your generosity is really appreciated.

Our guest speaker this year was one of our new English staff members Ms Samantha Montgomerie who is also a successful author. She has written a number of beginner readers for a book publisher, and her picture book Skipper and Scout: A Summer's Walkabout was shortlisted for The Storylines Joy Cowley Award in 2018. Ms Montgomerie is also a poet who has been published in a number of anthologies and in 2017 she was placed third in the national 'Poems in the Waiting Room Competition'. She delivered a wonderful speech encouraging us all to read.

After the assembly all students and staff who had dressed up in 'Spring Fling' costumes gathered in front of the school for costume judging and House photos. It was lovely to have a reason to celebrate.
