Year 12 Tourism - Monarch Wilderness Experience
Lily Bulmer and Maia Larsen , Year 12 - October 26, 2023
On Thursday 19th of October, our Year 12 Tourism class were lucky enough to have had the opportunity to experience one of the tourism attractions in Dunedin through a journey on the Monarch. We were very fortunate to have had beautiful, and near perfect weather for the trip. We boarded the Monarch at Weller’s Point, and spent an hour cruising out beyond Taiaroa Head on the Otago Peninsula. We got up close and saw a wide range of wildlife such as albatross, seals, sea lions, and the Otago Shag.
It was fascinating to experience the attraction from a visitor’s perspective and also observe the business and operational side of tourism with all the work that is put into running a successful business like The Monarch.
Apart from a few green faces, the students had a great experience. We would like to acknowledge our appreciation for the funding we received from STAR to pay for the experience. Thank you to Miss Young and Mrs Bazsika for joining us and making this opportunity happen.
