Defensive Driving
Learning to drive is an exciting and pivotal milestone for young people. At Otago Girls' we are here to support students along the way. Students can access online support for sitting their learner, restricted and full licenses at https://drive.govt.nz/. The Drive Road Code on the website has fun interactive units for students to work through. The units have been designed specifically for young people to teach them the road code and safe driving behaviours.
We also offer the AA Defensive Driving course at school. We are extremely fortunate to be granted a large subsidy from the Otago Motor Trust and we can offer the Defensive Driving Course at $41.00 per student (normally this cost is $245.00). This year we have four courses available (20 students per course). An email has been sent out to all Year 12 and Year 13 students with information on how to express an interest in participating in a course. Defensive Driving will give students the knowledge and confidence to be a smarter and safer driver. Students learn important defensive driving skills, such as assessing and identifying hazards to reduce the risk of being in a crash.
