On Wednesday night we had the pleasure of hosting our Moana Fanau in the staffroom. Our first Fono of the year saw us meeting together and talking with our families and members of our Tangata Moana Pasifika community to talk about student success. Darcie Evans-Tabata and other Moana leaders shone as they introduced their fanau and community to the success they have experienced over the past year in academic, sporting, and cultural pursuits. Dr. Xaviour Walker gave a warm and inspirational speech to us about the paths he has taken across his career from a young man intent on sports medicine to a leading gerontologist in Pacific health. He gave us a lot to think about as we work through career pathways. We also heard from Lloyd Maole who encouraged our young people to attend the Pasifika Navigators of Tomorrow at Forsyth Barr Stadium to gain insight into what it's like to work in different industries/professions or vocations. This event takes place on March 16th. We hope as many of our Year 11 to 13 Moana students can attend. It is essential that they register and let Ms Dick know they are attending by communicating with her through the Moana Google Classroom. If you are a Moana Pasifika parent and would like to know what's going on with events around school and beyond, you can join the "Classroom" as well. Just let Ms Dick know.Thank you to all the staff and members of the community who came to our Fono.
