Welcome to Year 9

Mrs R. Gordon —

It has been a great week for our 184 Year 9 students and they have settled well into their new routines at Otago Girls’ High School.

The first day of school was spent with form teachers and form classes, where new friendships were quickly forged. As part of their orientation to the school, the girls learnt how to log onto the school’s network and learning systems and we were impressed with their adept computing skills. Girls were also logged on to their devices and have quickly become accustomed to using them. We finished the day by learning the school Haka.

Our Year 13 Peer Support Leaders also played a significant part in the first day, as they guided the Year 9s on a school tour and answered questions about the school. The Peer Support Leaders will continue to build relationships with the Year 9s at Camp and during Thursday form-times in the first two terms.

The remainder of the week has been spent meeting their teachers, learning about the House system, finding their way around the school, entering for events for the upcoming Athletics Sports Day, and getting to know each other.

I look forward to meeting you all at the Year 9 Meet the Teacher evening on Monday 15 February at 6pm in the school hall. If you have any queries or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me at school.
