Equestrian
2025 has been an exceptional year for the equestrian team not just as a team but in our own individual events as well. This year our small but mighty Otago Girls' Equestrian Team consisted of Jessie McGrouther, Eila Currie Quinn, Imogen Leaper, Maddi Matapo, and Maddison Durham.
As a team of five we competed in the Palmerston Interschools competition. This was a really fun event with over 10 teams from schools around Otago competing in turnout, dressage, show jumping and fancy dress. We gained some fantastic results with Imogen and Jessie winning their dressage classes and Eila placing second. Imogen, Eila and Jessie also all placed in their respective show jumping classes. The whole team worked really well supporting each other over the day finishing 1st in turn out and 2nd in dressage and placing 2nd overall!
Throughout the year our riders competed in a variety of other events ranging from show hunter, show jumping, dressage to eventing. Here are some of the highlights of this year.
Eila Currie Quinn had an excellent result at ESNZ Showjumping and Showhunter South Island Champs where she won the Emerging Show Hunter mini series. She was also Equitation Champion (13y and over) at the National Jumping Championship. Eila and her pony also placed 2nd Category B Pony at the Otago Showjumping Championship.
Maddison Durham had some amazing results at A&P shows this year including being awarded Supreme Champion Ridden Pony at Strath Taieri, Champion A Ring Pony at Otago Taieri and Reserve Champion A Ring Pony at Gore. She also had multiple dressage wins in Otago and Gore as well as being the winner of the Genuine Gold Arabians in Dressage series.
Madi Matapo competed at a range of events from show jumping to shows and gymkhanas. Madi did really well at the Palmerston Mini Show where she won numerous classes including Best Rider and Best Pony Club Mount. She also had some great results in Otago and Southlamd Showjumping competitions.
Overall it was a great season and it was awesome to have an enthusiastic team of riders out there competing and representing our school.
