Gabi Summerfield, Year 12 — Aug 25, 2020

Over the last couple of months, Year 12 Media has been working on presenting radio shows down at OAR FM. It was a nervous and exciting process for all of us!

Throughout the planning stage, we learnt what a radio show is all about. We took into account target audiences, advertisements and all the bits and pieces which makes the show come to life, before beginning to plan our own! Throughout lock-down I enjoyed the opportunity to be creative, and let my personal interests spark ideas for my show. I got to brainstorm different aspects of the show, which gave me a glimpse of what a job in radio could really be like.

After lock-down, we were straight into production! In groups we merged shows and came up with interesting ways to present our ideas. During the process, we met the awesome team down at OAR FM, and got to see the facilities. We learned about what goes into the production of a radio show, and all the necessary equipment used. When the day finally came for my group to go live, nerves were running high. Thankfully, the OAR FM team were super helpful and everything ran smoothly! Overall, the planning and creation of our radio show was incredibly enjoyable, and an experience I’d recommend to anyone.
