Launch Showcase

Ms R. Taigel, Deputy Principal —

On the 31 October, the Year 12 and 13 Launch class held their evening showcase to share the projects they have worked on all year.

This was a hugely important event for the students, as they had the opportunity to present to their families, friends and key members of the Dunedin community.

Launch is a Year 12 and 13 course designed to allow students to gain NCEA credits while working on projects that they are passionate about. The students’ project concepts stemmed from problems they had discovered or investigated that people experience in everyday life. The girls set out to design a solution to those problems. Many of the projects align to the United Nations 17 Sustainability Goals. Projects ranged and varied widely because they emerged from the students’ own interests, strengths and personal values.

Launch is facilitated in a way that means students drive their own learning for the year, and are connected with mentors in the local community to support them in bringing their projects to life. NCEA credits are aligned to the various steps and elements of the project development process, so fit naturally with the student’s own learning process, hence the assessment is meaningful, purposeful and authentic.

The Launch showcase was a huge success, and the students can be incredibly proud of their journeys of personal learning and growth. We look forward to seeing their ideas, skills and talents develop in next year’s course!
