Betrayal
It tastes bitter, like a sour lolly,
like sour milk, salty seawater, coffee,
bleach, stale bread, like too much weetbix
and not enough milk
Betrayal smells like burning fire, a rotting corpse,
heavy, aggressive, like the person who betrayed you,
like a dog, like beer breath, a lit cigarette,
like the coconut shampoo I got you for your Birthday
It sounds like a ringing in your ears; piercing,
and muffled, your favourite song
playing on the radio, an alarm clock,
bagpipes
Betrayal looks gross
like a shattered mirror, teeth,
fear, opaque, frosted, red,
like jealousy, hot burning red
It feels like your heart dropping, slippery,
broken, sickening, churning, waves
of the ocean on a rough day,
a ball of knots, like walking on broken glass,
Like you’ve been let go.
