PB4L Launch 2017

Ms J. Nielson, Dean of Pastoral Care - February 9, 2017

Central to life and learning at Otago Girls’ High School are our school’s values, Respect: Kia Whakaute, Positivity: Kia Hihiri and Integrity: Kia Pono. We celebrated these values with our annual launch of PB4L last Friday.

Ms Miller set the tone at our first welcome assembly, by explaining the importance of our values and how they underpin everything we do at school. Her points were further illuminated by the reading of ‘The Other Brother’ by Stephanie Thatcher, which tells the delightful story of Bertie the pig, who realises his most important virtue is kindness. Kindness and a consideration for others unites the sentiments of our values.

A whole school barbecue, where everyone was treated to a sausage sizzle and fresh fruit, brought our school community together at lunchtime, while in the afternoon, form classes set to work by creating kindness trees. The kindness trees, which now adorn every form class, offer practical and useful suggestions on how we might extend kindness to others each and every day. We know that the year ahead will be marked by kindness.
