Year 13 Geography/Tourism Trip to Queenstown

Mrs B. Davidson and Year 13 Geography —

After an uncertain year it was very satisfying to be able to complete our field work in Year 13 Geography with our annual trip to Queenstown. This happened in the last week of Term 3 and kicked off with a visit to AJ Hackett Bungy where two students ‘took the plunge’! We then headed to our accommodation at the Lakefront YHA - possibly a little less busy than it would normally look. We walked into town in the evening, and encountered a DJ busker who provided some entertainment on the way home.

The next day we were at the Queenstown Lakes District Museum early to learn all about Tourism Development processes - including the latest COVID-19 downturn and pivots in trying to keep tourism afloat in 2020! We then headed to Millbrook Resort and were treated to a comprehensive tour including visits to the luxury cottages, a wedding venue where there was to be a wedding that evening and the Kobe Cuisine Japanese restaurant. The Gondola and Luge finished off the day before heading to the Frankton Pizzeria for dinner.

On returning to the YHA we were joined by the Year 12 Moke Lake camp who had evacuated in the rain. We were glad to see them warm and dry. Friday was up early to experience the thrill of the K-Jet zipping around the rivers and lake. This was a fantastic trip and we are well set up to write first-hand about tourism developments and experiences in the final exam. Thanks to Ms Munro who joined us at short notice for the trip and made it a great time.
