Obituary - Eleanor Lloyd

Mr C Richards, Deputy Principal —

It is with sadness that we acknowledge the passing of a former teacher and colleague of Otago Girls’ High School, Eleanor Lloyd.

Eleanor taught at OGHS from 1995 to 2010. A passionate science teacher, with specialist geology knowledge, Eleanor was regarded as an educator with strong curriculum knowledge who mentored many beginning teachers in the Science Department. She had the ability to bring alive the most abstract of scientific ideas with her pragmatic and humorous style.

With her no-nonsense approach in the classroom, Eleanor provided structure and clear boundaries to learning. She was staunch but deeply caring and would go the extra mile to help students who might be struggling even in their life outside of school.

Eleanor was a breath of fresh air to work with and was a highly respected colleague and teacher. She is still talked about fondly in the staffroom and everyone who worked alongside her will be very sad to hear of her passing.

Rest in peace, Eleanor.
