Whanau Hui 2020

Matua Mac Te Ngahue, Wairua Puhou Leader —

Last Wednesday, 5 February, Māori students, whanau, teachers and members of Te Wairua Pūhou gathered together for a collective hui in the OGHS library.

Academic success of Māori students was one of the main focuses, highlighting that Māori students achieved higher than the rest of the school cohort last year. Head Girl Jennifer Marsh, discussed how the inclusiveness of Te reo Māori learning students was very important this year to create a positive and enjoyable environment for Māori students to continue to achieve high. Ms Miller also presented the data from previous NCEA results which showed Māori students achieved considerably higher than nationwide decile 8 to 10 schools as shown in the graph below. Rachel O'Kane, School Council prefect, talked about Wairua Pūhou Nationals campaign with the performance on 30 June in Auckland. We closed with karakia had a cup of tea and chatted with whanau.
