Student Learning Conferences

Ms K Dick, Deputy Principal —

On Thursday 9 March Student Learning Conferences will take place for all Year 10-13 students. Year 9 students will be in a Wellbeing programme this day while the conferences are taking place.

The purpose of the conferences is to enable students to take responsibility for their own learning and to deepen the conversations that students, parents and teachers have around student learning.

All students in Years 10-13 have a teacher mentor who will monitor their achievement and progress through the year. It is envisaged that these teacher mentors will be a good point of contact for parents during the year and that ongoing discussions will take place around student well-being and achievement. In a lot of cases these mentors are the whanau group teachers for the students.

You will receive a 30 minute appointment for 9 March and later, for the August conferences. It is an expectation that parents and/or significant members of the student’s whanau will attend both of these meetings with the student. The importance of attending these meetings is such that we will provide a letter for parents’ employers should there be a need to get time off work to attend the conference. Research shows that home-school partnerships focused on the importance of doing well at school have the greatest positive outcomes for the student.

In Term 2 we will run subject-based interviews for all Year 9-13 students, to enable you to catch up with your daughter’s subject teachers and ask subject-specific questions. It is also possible to email any of your child’s teachers or to request to meet with them, at any time during the year.

More information and appointment times for the 9 March will follow. We look forward to meeting with you.
