OGHS SENIOR SIRENS VOLLEYBALL

Maddy Campbell —

On the 26 March the OGHS Senior Sirens flew off to Palmerston North to compete in the 49th Secondary Schools'  Volleyball Nationals where 170 girls and boys teams were competing.

Our team went into the tournament with a goal of winning Division 3 and gaining a spot in Division 1 for next year. We didn't just achieve our goal but exceeded it. We went through the tournament unbeaten only dropping two sets the whole tournament. The players have put in a lot of hard work at training and games throughout the season to achieve this goal and our coach Mr Murley has put in many hours. His drive and passion for the team was key and we are extremely lucky to have him as our coach. Another massive thanks to Ms Hokianga who was an outstanding manager, so all we needed to worry about was playing and nothing else.

Our tournament ran extremely smoothly thanks to some of the meals Ms Hokianga was able to whip up which were Masterchef quality, providing us with the energy we needed to perform our best. Getting the win was the perfect way for the three Year 13's Maddy, Poppy and Leah to finish off their last nationals with Otago Girls'. Good luck to the team next year competing in Division 1, hopefully they can bring home the national title.
