Rugby Under 15's Tournament

Mr D Trickey, TIC Sport —

The Under 15's rugby team enjoyed a fantastic day last Friday playing in a tournament at Peter Johnstone Park. It was the familiar foes of St Hilda's first up. Though St Hilda's came out of the traps fast for a solid six minutes of pressure, the line speed and solid defence form in our squad saw Otago Girls' win convincingly.

Next up was South Otago High School. The plucky South Otago girls kept the ball narrow and ran it hard but though the ball was still slippy in hand Otago Girls' started to show a bit of their class for another convincing win.

It was a meeting of the two unbeaten sides with OGHS meeting Central Southland College. This was a real tussle with the two teams bringing out the best rugby of the day so far. This game ended 17 all and could have gone either way.

Having secured their place in the final Otago Girls' allowed some of the younger ākonga more game time as they went into their last match of the round robin against St Peter's College. The young guns did really well and took out the game in style. This meant that the squad got a good rest before the final where they faced off against Central Southland for the second time. This match though was a bridge too far and Otago Girls' didn't put our name on the trophy. All in all though it was a great day, with Dina Veituna named as Most Valuable Player and Katie Rowe receiving the Fair Play Award.
