Year 11 Geography St Clair Trip

Ms T Munro, Social Sciences —

"Yes, we are still going!", said Ms Munro and Ms Joyce. Even though the temperature was half from the day previous and it had been raining, the Year 11 Geography students still managed to squeeze in a field trip to St Clair Beach on Wednesday, 20 February.

In Geography the students are currently studying about coastal erosion as a geographic issue and ways it can be managed. At the beach the students were able to have the time to really look at waves and how they affect the environment around them. Then examined the modifications that humans have made over the years to help keep the ocean out of the St Clair area. Back in class they will evaluate these management techniques and come up with a recommendation about the ongoing management of the area to minimise the impact of coastal erosion.
The students were fabulous and we are already looking forward to our next trip out of the classroom to Aoraki Mount Cook in May.
