A massive congratulations goes out to our very own Hetty Finney Waters in Year 12 for her spectacular success in the Charles Brasch Young Writers' Essay Competition. The competition was open to all New Zealand young people aged 16 to 21. What is particularly exciting is that it was judged by the editor of Landfall and her essay will be published in an upcoming edition. Hetty is passionate about the environment and climate change. Among many of her accomplishments, Hetty also chairs the Strategic Leadership Group of Town Belt Kaitiaki. Her essay incorporated a vigorous discussion on the importance of adaptation in New Zealand’s response to climate change. Last year, Hetty won the Dawn Ibbotson essay competition so her talents clearly lie in strong and vibrant writing about social issues. We look forward to what you are going to do next, Hetty. Congratulations on your award which also came with $500 in prize money.
